Walk of the World
In Nijmegen, every July is a four day march of 50 kilometers called the `Walk of the World` (Nijmegen 4Daagse). The Marches have grown into one of the biggest events in the Netherlands with +- 40.000 participants and well over 1 million visitors (www.4daagse.nl).
These visitors mainly come for a week long of festivities organized in the city, but these festivities borrow from the joyous, sportive and very international atmosphere of the Marches. Soldiers from all over the world march unarmed with their platoons, fully packed, offering a glimpse of world harmony with their songs, exchanging gifts with kids for fresh water or cookies.
I have noticed an intersting morning ritual that is unscripted, not official yet completely regular. Every morning the walkers start early (4.oo+) under the loud cheer of mainly drunk party people who exit the bars and festival sites. This cheering has grown into a spontaneous ritual.
Watch these video's for an impression:

It is a curious mix: the walkers completely sober, making themselves ready for a 50 kilometers walk - the drunks readying themselves for a happy snor in comfy bed. Yet they come together in this same rite that welcomes creativity within an indistinct sphere of togetherness and union.
